What is the Postgraduate Certificate in Play Therapy and Musical Play Programme?
The Postgraduate Certificate in Play Therapy and Musical Play provides theoretical and practical knowledge relating to Play therapy, drawing from the fields of Clinical Arts Therapy, Child Psychology, Early Intervention, Play Therapy and Musical Play.
What makes this course unique?
This is the only course that brings music and play together in ways that enhance children’s physical, mental, and emotional health.
This course not only focuses on working with typically developing children but also with children with a range of special needs and developmental profiles. Play Therapy and Musical Play naturally combine to foster children’s creative thinking, self-expression and musicality thus promoting their well-being.
What does this programme consist of ?
The course of study for the Certificate comprises four courses and one 4-day practice-based seminar in July 2017. Participants will complete the following courses:

Students entering the programme typically have completed a three-year undergraduate degree in a relevant professional qualification, including, Teaching, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Nursing plus a minimum of two years’ post-graduation work experience.

When can I start using Play Therapy and Musical Play in my clinical practice?
The Postgraduate Certificate in Play Therapy and Musical Play is Stage One of our Training Programme. Those who have successfully completed the Certificate may be eligible to apply for Stage Two which includes the Postgraduate Diploma in Play Therapy and Therapeutic Musical Play. This advanced qualification is clinically oriented and focuses on therapeutic application of Play Therapy and Musical Play for children with various mental health conditions, multi-system developmental disabilities and/or learning difficulties.
What is the Course Fee?
The fee for this on-line training and three practical workshops incorporating Musical Play, Clinical Art Therapy and Play Therapy is $5,000. This fee can be paid in two instalments: one payment will be paid prior to starting the on-line training. The second payment will be paid prior to the practical workshops.
Who are the trainers?
The course is presented by a qualified Play Therapist and Musical Play Therapist. It will also involve guest speakers from diverse disciplinary fields, such as Clinical Arts Therapy, Psychology, Psychotherapy and Music.
Julie Wylie

Julie founded the New Zealand Musical Parenting Association Inc. in Christchurch, New Zealand twenty three years ago. She is the senior music specialist at the Champion Centre, at Burwood Hospital, Christchurch, New Zealand. Julie has been invited to many countries to present music workshops and papers including Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, UK, Lithuania, Finland and Estonia. She has received awards for her music leadership and her music resources have won international awards. Julie also has her own music school for mothers and babies, and children 0-8 years.
Aleksandra Gosteva

Aleksandra is the founder and Director of the Child and Family Play Therapy Centre. She is a qualified Play Therapist and Early Intervention Specialist who has been offering professional training, clinical supervision, and mentoring in Play Therapy. She has developed her unique Play Therapy training programme designed specifically for teachers as a part of her Masters in Health Sciences at the Health Sciences Centre at the University of Canterbury. Aleksandra has had over 16 years’ experience working in a range of roles with children and families. She specialises in using play therapy with children who have multi-system developmental disabilities, conduct problems and learning difficulties.
